1. How do I know if my insurer includes Ohio Valley Medical Center in its covered network?
We are working to secure provider agreements with insurers. Initial discussions have been positive because of the solid reputation Prexus Health facilities, such as Ohio Valley Medical Center, have with insurers. They know Ohio Valley Medical Center will provide high quality care at a lower price, resulting in savings for patients and employers.

If an insurer elects not to contract with us, you may still use your "out of network" healthcare benefits to take advantage of having your procedure at Ohio Valley Medical Center. In fact, you will pay only what we charge to patients with in-network insurance. We will bill you only for applicable in-network benefit amounts for co-payments, co-insurance or deductibles.

2. Who is Prexus Health?

Prexus Health is a 100% physician-owned company with its corporate office in Cincinnati. Prexus Health works with local physicians, like those here in Springfield, to improve their community's healthcare by helping them to participate in the design and implementation of their local healthcare delivery system.

3. As a hospital, does Ohio Valley Medical Center have an emergency department?

No. Ohio does not require its licensed hospitals to have an emergency department. In fact, only Colorado and Texas have that requirement. Our doctors feel that Springfield area residents will be best served by having scarce emergency care resources concentrated in one high quality emergency department located at Springfield Regional Medical Center.

4. Is Ohio Valley Medical Center fully licensed and accredited?
Yes. As of July 2, 2009, we are a participating provider with Medicare. In addition, we are fully accredited by the Joint Commission, the nation's predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in health care.
