Ian Thompson Wins Statewide Team Physician Award

Ohio Valley Medical Center orthopedic surgeon named a 2011 Team Physician of the Year by the Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (July 25, 2011) — Ohio Valley Medical Center is proud to announce that Dr. Ian Thompson was recently named a 2011 Team Physician of the Year by the Ohio Athletic Trainers' Association (OATA). Dr. Thompson is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in the areas of sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery who serves student athletes throughout Greater Springfield, and primarily at Springfield High School. This prestigious award from OATA recognizes Dr. Thompson as one of the three best team physicians in the state of Ohio; selecting him from a field of hundreds of qualified candidates. Dr. Thompson says that he is "humbled" by the award and "grateful for the opportunity to work with such great kids, coaches, and families in the community."

According to Ohio Valley Medical Center Chief Executive Officer, Steve Esientrager, Dr. Thompson's OATA award is a "tremendous accomplishment" and a formal recognition of the dedicated community service that's integral to the hospital's care philosophy.
